Research Topic For Semester
In Kenya, the first case of HIV/AIDS was reported in 1984. Today, nearly 90% of cases reported are among the age group 15 – 49 years, which turns out to be the economically productive age group. This means that the impact of HIV/AIDS has assumed economic developmental dimensions including, socio-economic consequences that are widely felt not only in the health sector, but in education, industry, agriculture, transport and human resources. It has therefore negatively affected the micro and macro-economy of the country in general. In Nairobi, like elsewhere in the country, the impact of having a family member with HIV/AIDS include the fact that household suffer a dramatic decrease in income. Decreased income inevitably means fewer purchases and diminishing savings.
